BGCGW offers accessible and affordable after-school time programming to children and teens in Washington, MD and Northern VA.

Our Club facilities and age-appropriate settings create a sense of physical and emotional safety for our members and our staff make the Club feel like home – fostering a family atmosphere. The professional staff, actively cultivate relationships with members to ensure they feel connected and have a strong sense of stability and belonging as well as have fun!

Members develop critical thinking, physical, social, technological, artistic and life skills by participating in interactive activities intentionally designed to support their development and overall well-being in the following areas:

Education & Career Development with a focus on S.T.E.M. + Arts = S.T.E.A.M.  Education

We believe that all children can succeed and thrive academically with support and opportunities to learn and grow. Our programs are designed to engage our Club members through active learning and support their academic success. Programs include:

Power Hour: Making Minutes Count is an engaging homework help and tutoring program that encourages Club members at every age to become self-directed learners.

Money Matters promotes financial responsibility and independence among Club members ages 13 to 18. Participants learn how to manage a checking account, create a budget, save and invest, start small businesses and pay for college.

Career Launch is a program for teens 13-18 that helps them to choose the college or career path that is right for them. The program offers workshops that teach interview skills, resume writing skills, and academic support. Field trips offer opportunities for job shadowing and college tours.

Diplomas 2 Degrees (D2D) BGCA’s new college readiness program, provides a range of services to guide Club members as they work toward high school graduation and prepare for post-secondary education and career success.

Pepco STEM Club is a collaboration with Discovery Education where members have access to hands-on high-yield activities in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math fields. Members learn about energy, and urban infrastructure.

S.T.E.A.M. Team seamlessly integrates Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math into out of school time. Using a rich combination of hands-on labs, engineering challenges and creative programming, BGCGW STEAM partners with the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Pepco Holdings, Discovery Education and many more to bridge the technological divide and support youth achievement in the STEM and STEAM fields.

Character & Leadership Development

BGCGW’s character and leadership programs groom members to be positive leaders and engaged, responsible citizens by allowing Club members to practice and improve their decision-making skills. Programs include:

Torch Clubs – Torch Clubs are chartered, small-group leadership and service clubs for boys and girls ages 11 to 13. A Torch Club is a powerful, vehicle through which Club staff can help meet the special character development needs of younger adolescents at a critical stage in their life.

Keystone – Keystone is the Boys & Girls Club Movement’s ultimate teen program. This unique leadership development experience provides opportunities for young people ages 14 to 18.

Youth of the Year – Established in 1947, Youth of the Year is BGCA’s premier recognition program for Club members, promoting service to Club, community and family; academic success; strong moral character; life goals; and poise and public speaking ability.

Health & Life Skills Programs

These initiatives develop young people’s capacity to engage in positive behaviors that nurture their own well-being, set personal goals and live successfully as self-sufficient adults.

Passport To Manhood – Passport to Manhood promotes and teaches responsibility in Club boys ages 11 to 14. Passport to Manhood consists of 14 sessions, each concentrating on a specific aspect of character and manhood through highly interactive activities.

SMART Girls – An outgrowth of the popular and effective SMART Moves program, SMART Girls is a health, fitness, prevention/education and self-esteem enhancement program for girls ages 8 to 17.

SMART Moves – The SMART Moves (Skills Mastery and Resistance Training) prevention/education program addresses problems such as drug and alcohol use and premature sexual activity.

Healthy Habits: A Triple Play Program – Designed to incorporate healthy living and active learning in every part of the Club experience, Healthy Habits emphasizes good nutrition, regular physical activity and improving overall well-being.

Sports Fitness & Recreation

These programs help develop fitness, a positive use of leisure time, reduction of stress, appreciation for the environment and social and interpersonal skills. Programs Include:

Triple Play – Triple Play, a comprehensive health and wellness program, strives to improve the overall health of Club members ages 6-18 by increasing their daily physical activity, teaching them good nutrition and helping them develop healthy relationships.

Sports Leagues – A variety of sports leagues including basketball, soccer flag football, running etc.  Sports leagues emphasize healthy competition, teamwork and sportsmanship. Visit the Club pages to find out which sports are offered at your local Club.

Summer Camp

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington offers a wide variety of fun and educational summer programs designed to prevent summer learning loss. Summer camp programs focus on S.T.E.M. programming to help youth, ages 5-13, maintain and enhance math and reading skills in a safe and fun environment.
